WOOD: Cottonwood

Everything in the universe is cycling through growth and destruction on a myriad of time scales. This applies to both living and non-living matter. There is an exuberant and exhilarating quality to growth (the rise). But there is also a mysterious and fascinating attractiveness to decline (the fall). Perhaps we apply the term bitter sweet to this phase of existence. However, there is a rich and complex beauty in the crumbling demise of the once soaring form. The fascinating texture of the fall exceeds the simplistic nature and freshness of the rising form.
