WOOD: Box Elder
“The ocean washed shell fragments that can be found along the seashore are often beautiful miniature sculptures. I am fascinated by these spiral forms with subtle elegant lines. Shell Form 59 is one of my monumental shell form series which calls attention to the too often overlooked beauty at our feet. The lacy detail is juxtaposed by the soothing clean lines of the over-all form. It is mounted on a substantial sculptural base with striking red coloring in the grain. The attachment point gives the appearance of a precarious balancing which somehow feels quite stable. This is a sculpture with contradictions that are ultimately in balance.”
